Back in 2012, my son Jack asked me to take him to see where I work. At the time, I was hosting “Going 9 Fantasy Baseball” at the SiriusXM studios in Manhattan, and we had a great time.
He was 10 years old and already a huge sports fan. My co-host at the time, George Kurtz, is a dad too, and he was especially nice to Jack and didn’t mind when I asked him to let him sit in the studio when we were on the air.
Little did I know that years later, and to my great pleasure, Jack would be joining me on a podcast called the “Gotham Sports Machine.”
I can’t tell you how impressed I am with him on the air. With no formal training of any kind, Jack is one of the most knowledgeable co-hosts I have ever had. He watches everything: baseball, football, basketball, college football, and basketball too.
He’s still learning the fine art of hosting and navigating the broadcast (we record live, no edits!), but I can tell you, he’s already ahead of a lot of the folks I have worked with over the years.
Jack is ready to disagree with me. We may root for the same teams, but that doesn’t mean we have the same outlook on them. It makes for great content, but unlike a lot of what you may hear or see elsewhere, we don’t script our shows or have production meetings to choose which side of an argument we will take. I’ve never done that and never will, and Jack agrees.
I always used to tell people that when I chose a co-host for one of my shows or podcasts, I always wanted to collaborate with an expert. This is no different. Jack knows his stuff, and unlike me, usually stays awake during a lot of these night games.
Let me make something clear: Jack has earned this opportunity and is making the most of it. So, as you search around your preferred media platforms, check out the “Gotham Sports Machine.” New episodes drop every Tuesday at 2 p.m.
